For Love of the Game
About 20 minutes after the Giants beat the Patriots on Super Bowl Sunday, and my heart resumed its normal rate, I realized that I had been so wrapped up in the game, that I hadn't really paid attention to the commercials. Last year, by comparison, I found the ads more compelling than the game.
Salesforce's 2011 ad introducing Chatter.com prompted us to check out the private social network. Chatter quickly became the cloud-based place where our dispersed team brainstorms, collaborates and builds relationships. As we've grown, so has our use of Chatter. In this issue of Dialog, read about how business is going social, learn that Jive is not a version of Victor Cruz's victory salsa, and welcome two new members to the VTLO team.
Best,
Jill
Social Shift
Organizations are adopting social networking outside and inside the enterprise. While some struggle to make their Sharepoint sites a genuine collaboration space for employees, others are vaulting ahead to develop a social business approach. According to IBM, "the world now spends 22% of its time - more than 110 billion minutes - on social networks and blog sites per month." To teach companies how to harness that power, IBM is offering a Social Business Roadshow. From the company that all but invented e-business, its take on the shift to social business is worth understanding.

Social Business (and all that Jive)
Jive Software is a social business software company that aims to merge the worlds of enterprise and consumer software. It pairs the security and stability of enterprise systems with the user-friendly ease and sharing capabilities of the social media consumer experience. CEO Tony Zingale said that companies "must adopt social business strategy or risk falling behind their competitors" because social software is the most effective way to organize "their single biggest investment, which for most companies is their people."
According to Jive, customers have seen a 33% increase in customer satisfaction, a 34% increase in brand awareness, 27% less e-mail and 34% less time spent searching for information and experts.
Companies are using Jive to communicate information, drive change, share ideas as well as documents and to propel innovation and collaboration internally and externally. For example, T-Mobile has used Jive's social software to replace its entire online support system, transforming customer support into an online community where customers can chat amongst one another and get answers and tips from their peers. Some other Jive users include Live Nation, Toshiba, Life Technologies, Cisco and Nike.
Companies report the following advantages to the social business platform:
-
Reduce email traffic
-
Improve search functionality
-
Use crowdsourcing to drive innovation and solve problems
How do these "jive" with your business objectives?
