The Power of Joining Forces

As a business leader, you know that your number-one priority is building and nurturing relationships. Customers, investors, suppliers, employees, and the public—you must know them well to satisfy their needs and to ensure the health and growth of your business. What if I told you there is a community of business leaders focused on harnessing the value of relationship building—not only for themselves, but also for the benefit of everybody in the community, including the people they serve?

That community is the Women’s Business Enterprise National Council (WBENC).

Now celebrating its 20th anniversary, WBENC creates the opportunity for the convergence of business women and men in hundreds of industries serving millions of people around the world. WBENC does this in many ways—through its annual events, rigorous certification process for women-owned businesses, executive education curriculum, volunteer service and leadership opportunities, and sponsorships from the world’s leading corporations. When you are a member of the WBENC community, the potential for building relationships is limitless.

In three days at the 2017 WBENC Summit & Salute last week, I had the opportunity to:

  • Meet hundreds of other women business owners who may have a need for the services my WBENC-certified company, Vitiello Communications Group, provides; and with whom I could potentially build strategic alliances.
  • Pitch dozens of procurement and supplier diversity leaders who are genuinely interested in hearing how your company can add value to theirs. From the legendary Meet & Greet—a business version of speed dating—to award celebrations and hallway conversations, WBENC events are unparalleled in the way they bring likeminded businesspeople together.
  • Learn from the best. The conference agenda is always crammed with workshops, presentations and interactive sessions delivered by industry thought leaders. Last week’s program featured corporate executives who spoke about the future of their industries—including healthcare, financial services, technology, telecommunications, professional services, human resources, and energy.

It’s a simple fact of human nature that people do business with people they know, like and trust. Being an active member of WBENC makes me and my company, Vitiello Communications Group, an integral part of a diverse, inclusive community that actively seeks to build relationships that benefit not only buyers and sellers, but also—and most important—the patients, consumers and something they serve. What’s not to like about that?
